To specify a nonlinear cable analysis

You must have specified at least one member with a cable specification.

Only one load case may be applied for a cable analysis. Therefore, multiple analysis sets should be added for each load case to be analyzed. A warning is generated when two or more load cases are used for a cable analysis.

  1. Add or edit an existing analysis set in the Analysis Commands dialog .

Refer to To add an analysis set for details.

  2. Select Cable from the Analysis type drop-down list.
  3. Select the desired Print option for including analysis results in the output file.
  4. Select the cable analysis Method:

    Basic

    or

    Advanced

Note: Use of the Advanced Cable analysis feature requires the Advanced Analysis License. The Method options are inactive when this license type is not available.

The analysis options update to reflect the method selection.
  5. Specify the cable analysis parameters:
    1. Type the number of load Steps to use.
    2. Type the maximum number of Iterations to use within each load step.
    3. Type the convergence Tolerance for the iterations.
  6. For the Basic method, specify the Additional basic options:
    1. Type a Sag factor.
    2. Type a Stability matrix value.
    3. Type the number of Stability steps (load steps) over which the Stability matrix is applied.
    4. Type a Joint modification factor.
  7. For the Advanced method, specify the Additional advanced options:
    1. Select either a Full or Modified Newton-Raphson method.
    2. Select if the Geometric stiffness is to be considered.
  8. Click OK.

Repeat this procedure for each additional load case which requires a cable analysis.
