To change surface edge or corner restraints

To release analytical degrees of freedom along surface boundaries or corner nodes, use the following procedure.

These restraint options are included as element release commands in the analytical model.

Select the surface objects to be modified.

On the Spreadsheet ribbon tab, in the Surfaces group:

To modify…	Select…
boundary nodes	the Edge restraints tool
corner nodes	the Corner restraints tool

The corresponding spreadsheet is displayed.

For each of the selected surfaces, select the appropriate restraint condition for each corner or edge from the drop-down list in the cell.
- Free - all degrees of freedom are free to move or rotate
- Pinned - free to rotate but restrained against translation
- Fixed (default for edges) - all degrees of freedom restrained
- None (corner only; default) - releases are determined by the boundaries

You can review surface corner and node releases by selecting the Releases tool in the Toggle Attributes group on the View ribbon tab. The surface graphics are updated along edges and at corners where the restraint is changed from the defaults.
