To apply a pressure load over a surface region

To apply either a uniform pressure or linearly varying pressure to a surface region, use the following procedure.

These tools are used to add "patch" loading to surfaces.
Note: The selected surface regions must all have the same number of nodes.
  1. Select the surface regions that will have the same pressure load applied.
  2. On the Region ribbon tab, select the corresponding tool in the Loads group.
To apply this load type… Do this…
uniform select the Uniform Pressure tool

The Add Region Uniform Pressure Load dialog opens.

variable select the Variable Pressure tool

The Add Region Variable Pressure Load dialog opens.

  3. Select the Load group or case to which the load will be added from the drop-down list.
  4. Select the Direction of the load.
  5. (Variable Pressure only) Select the direction in which the load varies from the Variation along element drop-down list.
  6. Either:

    Type the uniform pressure value

    or

Enter the pressure values at each end of the variable pressure load:

    For… Do this…
Joint select the joint for three corners and then type the load values at each
A local axis type the pressure value to use at each end
  7. Click OK.
The dialog closes and the load is applied to the selected surface regions.
You can edit variable pressure load values for the current load group or load case by selecting the Surface region pressure load tool in the Surfaces group on the Spreadsheet ribbon tab.
