To specify axial behavior of a member

To specify a member as tension-only or compression-only, use the following procedure.

Select the members which will have the same axial behavior.
Select the Axial Behavior tool in the Edit group on the Member ribbon tab.
Select the appropriate axial behavior from the drop-down list.

Tension-Only Member

Compression-Only Member

A visual representation of the axial behavior is graphically displayed on the member midpoint:
- a red turnbuckle for tension-only members
- a blue piston for compression-only members

You can edit the axial behavior of members by selecting the Releases tool in the Members group on the Spreadsheet ribbon tab.

Tip: To restore a member to full axial behavior for tension and compression, select Complete from the drop-down list.
