To specify member end releases

To release one or both ends of a member in one or more degrees of freedom, use the following procedure.

Member ends are assumed fixed against translation and rotation with respect to their end nodes. In order to change this condition, you must specify the end releases.

  1. Select the members which will all have the same end releases.
    Note: If you are applying release conditions to only one end, you must select the node for that end as well.
  2. On the Member ribbon tab, select one of the member release tools in the Edit group:
    Tool Description
    Hinge both ends

    This tool releases both ends of the selected members for bending moments about local axes y and z (My and Mz are free to rotate).

    Fix both ends

    This tool sets all degrees of freedom to fixed in the selected elements.

    Hinge End

    Select an option from the drop-down list of tools to hinge the end of the member with the selected node about the indicated direction:

    Fix End

    Select an option from the drop-down list of tools to restrain the end of the member with the selected node about the indicated direction:

Member end releases can further edited or customized by selecting the Releases tool in the Members group on the Spreadsheet ribbon tab.
