To add a static seismic load definition

To add a static seismic load definition containing code-specific loading parameters (i.e., an equivalent lateral force seismic load), use the following procedure.

Note: In addition to defining parameters for a seismic load case, you must also create one or more mass load groups to define the mass model for the structure. See To add a mass model load group for details.
  1. On the Catalog ribbon tab, select the Add Seismic tool in the Load Definitions group.

The Seismic Load Definition dialog opens.
  2. Type a unique Name for the new seismic load definition.
  3. Select the options for the static seismic definition:
    1. If the moment due to accidental torsion is to be considered, check the Include Accidental Torsion Moment option and then type the corresponding Factor.
    2. If the moment due to natural torsion is to be considered, check the Include Natural Torsion Moment option and then type the corresponding Factor.
  4. Select the Code and Version from the respective drop-down lists to use for this definition. The list of Properties updates to reflect the parameters for the selected code.
  5. If the accidental load is to be considered, check the Include Accidental Load option.
  6. (Optional) For IS 1893 codes only, click the Generate button to open a dialog which is used to enter a simplified set of parameters per the IS 1893 code.
  7. Specify the code-specific static seismic Parameters.
  8. Click OK.
You can now use this definition for multiple static seismic load cases.

Selecting a seismic definition in the catalog will display its parameters in the Properties panel.

You can edit a seismic load definition by selecting it from the structure catalog and then clicking the Edit tool in the Edit group on the Catalog ribbon tab.
