To specify a tapered section

To specify a tapered section depth, use the following procedure.

Web taper depths are specified after a member is added and a shape has been assigned.
Note: You may specify member depth values for any member. Only those with prismatic I shapes, prismatic pipe, and prismatic tubes will be modeled as tapered in the analytical model. Other shapes such as prismatic I with composite flange and rectangular tube sections with taper values will generate a series of stepped sections at the number of divisions specified in the Options dialog.
  1. Select one or more members in the graphical view which have the same end depths.
  2. On the Member ribbon tab, select the Assign Taper tool in the Properties group.

The Assign Tapered Properties dialog opens.
  3. Check the Set Initial Depth option and then type an Initial Depth value.
  4. Check the Set Final Depth option and then type a Final Depth value.
Tip: The section taper can increase or decrease from initial to final depth.
  5. Click OK.
You can edit tapered member properties in the Tapered Members spreadsheet by selecting the Tapered Members tools in the Members group on the Spreadsheet ribbon tab.
Note: All members in the model are included in the table. However, only those members with values for Initial depth and Final depth will be tapered.
