P. To view stress contour of a beam
To display the full section stress contour on a beam, use the following procedure.
Stress contours can be displayed for
sections that have predefined dimensions (e.g., catalog and prismatic sections) and general
sections with stress distances defined.
- On the Results ribbon tab, select the tool in the View Results group. The 3D Beam Stress Contour dialog opens.

In the
Whole Structure view window, click on any member
to select it.
The Select Section Plane dialog opens.
The 3D Beam Stress Contour displays a rendered view of the member with the stress contours on the surface on the left and the current cross-section stress contour on the right. Compression is display in blue and tension in red.
The table displays the corner stress values at points along the member length.
- Use the slider in the Select Section Plane dialogs to update the cross section stress contour display.
- (Optional) In the Select Section Plane dialog, type a Y Point and Z Point value to display the cross-section stress at an arbitrary point within the section.
