TR.37.7.2.1 Type of Frame

Both concentrically braced frames and fully restrained moment frames can be specified for pushover analysis in STAAD.Pro.

Note: FEMA 356 2000 recognizes only the following frame types: concentric braced frames (CBF), eccentric braced frames (EBF), and fully restrained (FR) moment frames. Only CBF and FR moment frame are used in the program.

  1. CBF - concentric braced frame
  2. FR - fully restrained moment frame (default)

In a concentrically braced frame, STAAD.Pro will consider axial hinges for the braces which are declared as truss members. Axial hinges will be considered for the beams and column members too.

In a moment frame, STAAD.Pro considers all members to be frame members except those which are declared as truss member. For beams (i.e., horizontal member) moment hinges will form (deformation controlled). For columns (i.e., vertical member) it can be either force-controlled (axial & bending) or deformation controlled (bending only) depending upon the values of axial forces formed in column as per FEMA 356 2000 guidelines.
