EX. To design the box section

  1. On the Specification ribbon tab, select the User Table > User Table Manager tool in the Beam Profiles group.

    If no User Defined Table exists, you will be prompted to create one.

    The User Table Manager dialog opens.
  2. Click New Table. The New User Table dialog opens.
  3. Specify the new external table:
    1. In the Select Section Type list, select GENERAL.
    2. Check the External Table option.
    3. Click Browse.
    4. Navigate to and select the file Bsection.upt exported from Section Wizard and then click OK.
    The dialog closes and the Table Data in the User Table Manager dialog shows the name of the profile read from the .upt file.
  4. In the User Table Manager dialog, click Close.
    Tip: In this example file, the section is already assigned to the member. However, if starting from a new file, you must assign the general UPT section to any members in order to use it for analysis and design.
  5. Either:

    Select the  Run Analysis tool in the Analysis group on the Analysis and Design ribbon tab.

    or

    Press <CTRL+F5>

    The STAAD Analysis and Design dialog opens.

    During the analysis (and design, if specified), an output file is generated. This file may contain selected input data items, results and error messages. Optional print specifications can be used to include additional information in the output file.

  6. Click Done.
  7. Select Chinese Steel Design in the Workflows panel.

  8. On the Chinese Steel Design ribbon tab, select the General Section tool in the Settings group.

    The General Section dialog opens.
  9. Select the table row for BOX1 and then enter the section values as follows:
    Field Value
    Flange Width between 2 Webs 0.972 m
    Thickness of Flange (TF) 0.024 m
    Height of Web (BW) 1.552 m
    Thickness of Web (TW) 0.014 m
  10. Click Close.
  11. On the Chinese Steel Design ribbon tab, select the Design tool in the Design group.

    The Chinese Steel Design dialog opens.
  12. Click Design. The design progress is displayed.
  13. Click Done.
