Story Data dialog

Used to assign Floor Types and floor-to-floor heights to each level of the building.

Opens when the Story menu is selected.

Story Data describes the story levels in the building, their floor-to-floor heights and the Floor Layout Type defining the geometry of the level.

SettingDescription
Level Number Provide the numerical level number of the level to be added.

If the Generate option is selected, an additional To field is displayed to add a range of levels. The labels for these levels will be generated using the parameters specified in the Story Label section.

Floor Type Select the layout type to use at this floor level. A Layout Type may be used on multiple levels, but the story label must be unique for each level.

If an individual Layout Type is used on more than one level, they must be adjacent levels; it is not permitted to use the same Layout Type at two different levels separated by another Layout Type.

Tip: This limitation can be dealt with by creating a new Layout Type identical to the other by selecting Layout > Type > Copy.
Splice Level In the RAM Steel Column module, the Splice Level flag is used by the RAM Steel Column module to indicate levels at which column sizes can change (there can be a splice). If No is selected, the column at (below) this level and the column above will be assigned the same size based on the controlling condition of the two levels. If Yes is selected, the column at (below) this level and the column above may be assigned different sizes. This is the only significance of the Splice Level flag; the fact that in reality the column splices may actually occur at some height above the floor is irrelevant to the program.
Flr to Flr Height The difference between the current level and the level below. This information is used to determine column lengths for the RAM Steel Column module, and to determine story heights, joint node locations and column lengths for RAM Frame.
Note: The program does not use the story elevation.
Story Label

The Story Data can be added one story at a time, or may be generated for a range of stories if the layout type and story height are the same for the generated stories.

  • To add the story data for one story at a time, select the Use option and enter the Story label.
  • To generate the story data, select the Generate option. Then select the Style that is to be used in the generated labels, enter a Prefix if desired (e.g, "Level "), select the Enumerator label appropriate for the first (lowest) of the stories for which the story labels are being generated, and enter a Suffix if desired (e.g., " Floor").
Tip: The file containing the Styles and Enumerators can be edited and customized. See section 8.19 Modeler Story Label File in the RAM Manager Manual for more information.
story list This table contains the data for all stories in the model.
Add Used to a new story or generation of stories with the current input values.
Delete Deletes the currently selected story in the story list.
Note: Only one story can be deleted at a time. Therefore, if the Generate option is selected, this button is inactive.
Change Used to save any changes made to the currently selected story in the list.
