RAM Structural System Help

Adding a Composite Decking Property

  1. Select the Composite Floor System tab.
  2. Select a Deck Type by clicking the desired Deck Type in the Deck list box.
  3. Type a name for the deck type in the Label edit box.
  4. Type the concrete thickness in the Concrete Thickness Above Flutes edit box.
Note: This is the total slab thickness for Flat Slab and for Bison Precast Units (UK).
  5. Type the Stud Length in the Stud Length edit box.
  6. Select the Stud Diameter by clicking the desired option button.
Note: Some diameters are not available for some decks, based on Code limitations.
  7. Select whether or not beams assigned this deck are shored (i.e., "propped") by clicking the desired Yes or No option. The default is No.
  8. Type the Unit Weight of Concrete in the Unit Weight edit box. This value is used in the calculation of composite section properties as well as in the calculation of the slab self-weight.
  9. Type the concrete compressive strength in the f’c (or fc or fcu) edit box.
Note: For BS 5950, the cube strength, rather than the cylinder strength, is required.
  10. Type the stud strength (Fu) in the Stud Fu edit box.
  11. Type the Self-Weight of the Steel Deck. This value should only include the self-weight of the steel deck itself; it should not include the concrete weight. This value is used in the calculation of the slab self-weight, and is added to the weight of the concrete portion of the slab.
  12. Type the Effective Thickness.
Note: This is only used if the diaphragm is specified as Semirigid in RAM Frame; otherwise it need not be entered.
  13. Type the Poisson's Ratio.
Note: This is only used if the diaphragm is specified as Semirigid in RAM Frame; otherwise it need not be entered.
  14. Type the Elastic Modulus.
Note: This is only used if the diaphragm is specified as Semirigid in RAM Frame; otherwise it need not be entered.
  15. Click Add. You will then see the newly created Decking Property entered into the Decking Property list box.
