Criteria

In general, the criteria items in the Criteria menu that are applicable to Steel beam design are also applicable to Cellular Beam design.

In the Criteria - Steel Design Codes command, the BS5950:2000 code is the default design code for Cellular Beams. The design code used for Steel beam can be specified independently of that used for Cellular Beam design.

The criteria items found in Criteria - Deflection Criteria, Criteria - Camber, and Criteria - Stud Criteria apply to Cellular Beam design the same as for Steel design, except that in Criteria – Stud Criteria Defaults, the Stud Distribution options do not apply to Cellular Beam design; a uniform distribution of studs is always used on Cellular Beams.

The increments for diameter and pitch that the program considers can be specified with the Criteria – Westok Cellular Beam command. An increment in pitch or diameter smaller than the defaults specified may result in longer design periods. While smaller increments give the manufacturer greater flexibility in the final design and detailing of the Cellular Beams, larger values speed up the computation of the design, especially when the beam spans are unusually long. The increments should generally be 25mm.
