Web Opening Layout Mode dialog

Used to specify the location, shape, and size of the web opening for steel beams.

Opens when either:
  • Layout > Beams > Web Openings > Add is selected
  • Add Openings tool is selected from the Layout Beam dynamic toolbar

SettingDescription
Location Select the method of specifying the location of the hole or holes along the length of the member:
  • Single Opening - to place a single hole at the specified Horiz distance from selected end of span
  • Generate - Partial Length - to place a specified Total number of openings, starting at the specified Horiz distance from selected end of span, at an even Spacing
  • Generate - Full Length - to place holes at a maximum Spacing along the length of the beam, between the specified Horiz distance from each end
Note: The fields associated with a Location option are active when that option is selected. Otherwise, those values are ignored when placing web openings.
Shape & Size Select the shape of the opening and specify the size parameters accordingly:
  • Rectangular - Type the H (height) and B (base length)
  • Circular - Type the Diameter of the opening
Position in Web of Beam Select where the hole is positioned in the web:
  • Centered - the hole is centered on the mid-depth of the beam
  • Offset from the top of beam - type the offset distance (inches) and the point in the opening to which the offset is measured: top, center, or bottom
Single Click to select a single beam using the selected placement option. After selecting a member, you will then select the member end to use as the reference for horizontal distance for Single and Generated - Partial Length placement options.
Intersect Click to draw a temporary line segment. Any members that intersect with this line segment will have openings added. The member end closest to the line segment will be the reference for the horizontal distance for Single and Generated - Partial Length placement options.
