RAM Structural System Help

Deck/Slab Property Information dialog

Used to enter the Composite, NonComposite, or Concrete Floor System Property Information for all decking or slabs to be used in the current model.

Opens when either:
  • PropTable > Decking is selected
  • the Deck Properties tool is selected from the Layout Slab dynamic toolbar

  • Property Table is clicked in the Deck Assignment Mode dialog
Note: If the current material is Concrete, the Deck/Slab Property Information dialog will default to the Concrete Slab System. For all other materials, the dialog will default to the Composite Floor System page.

If the deck is to be assigned to a roof or floor that is going to be specified as Semi-rigid in RAM Frame, the Diaphragm properties must be specified for Composite and Noncomposite decks; diaphragm properties for Concrete slabs are determined from the specified concrete slab properties.

Composite Floor System tab

On the Composite Floor System tab, any Deck Type currently in the deck file may be selected. Other properties associated with the concrete slab, studs, etc., must also be defined.

SettingDescription
Deck Select a steel deck value from the current Deck table.
Note: The Deck table is selected in the Design Table Selection dialog in RAM Manager.
Reinforced with Dramix Steel Fibres Check this option to specify the use of Dramix Steel Fibres for the composite deck. When Kingspan Multideck 50, 60 or 80 decks are selected (available in the ramuk Deck table), an option to specify that the concrete is Reinforced with Dramix Steel Fibres is enabled.
Note: This option is only visible when Kingspan Multideck is selected.
See the RAM Steel Beam manual for additional information.
Reinforced with FibreFlor Check this option to specify the use of FibreFlor for the composite deck. When Corus or Tegral ComFlor 43, 51, 70 or 80 decks are selected (available in the ramuk Deck table), an option to specify that the concrete is Reinforced with FibreFlor is enabled.
Note: This option is only visible when Corus or Tegral ComFlor is selected.
See the RAM Steel Beam manual for additional information.
Stud Diam Select a predefined diameter for the shear studs.
Shored Select if the decking is shored or not during construction.
Label Type a label used to identify this deck for assignment.
Concrete Thickness Above Flutes Type the concrete height above the deck flutes.
Stud Length Type the total stud length.
Unit Weight Type the unit weight (density) of the concrete.
f'c Type the compressive strength of the concrete.
Stud Fu Type the rupture strength of the stud material.
Self-Weight of Steel Deck Type the self-weight of the steel deck, given as an area load.
Diaphragm Provide geometry and material properties used for diaphragm action:
SettingDescription
Effective Thickness Type the effective thickness of the diaphragm.
Poisson's Ratio Type the Poisson's ratio for diaphragm.
Elastic Modulus Type the elastic modulus, E, for diaphragm.
Slab Stiffness Properties Check the Apply Stiffness Modification Factors option to modify the stiffness in different directions and actions (in-plane and out-of-plane). These can be used to assign different properties for corrugated decks such that load is only transferred along the deck direction. Similarly, they can be used to account for cracked properties of concrete decks (in place of crack factors).

To modify stiffness properties of diaphragms, the program allows you to define 3 stiffness modifiers for in-plane action (i.e., f11, f22, and f12) and 3 stiffness modifiers for out-on-plane action (i.e., m11, m22, and m12). Further information can be found in RAM Frame Manual, Section 7.24.

composite floor systems table The composite floor systems defined in the model are displayed here.
Add Click to add a new composite floor system to the model.
Delete Click to delete the currently selected composite floor system from the model. If the composite deck is assigned in the model, a warning is displayed and you will not be able to delete it.
Change Click to change the deck properties to any changed values or selections.

Any changes made to a Deck Property after it has been assigned to a floor area automatically become effective wherever that Property has been assigned.

Noncomposite Floor System tab

On the Noncomposite tab, a label and other noncomposite properties must be specified.

SettingDescription
Label Type a label used to identify this deck for assignment.
Unit Weight for Self-Weight Type the self-weight of the deck, given as an area load.

For noncomposite floor systems, you may also specify the angle from the global X-axis at which the stiffness modifiers act.

To modify stiffness properties of diaphragms, the program allows you to define 3 stiffness modifiers for in-plane action (i.e., f11, f22, and f12) and 3 stiffness modifiers for out-on-plane action (i.e., m11, m22, and m12). Further information can be found in RAM Frame Manual, Section 7.24.

noncomposite floor systems table The noncomposite floor systems defined in the model are displayed here.
Add Click to add a new noncomposite floor system to the model.
Delete Click to delete the currently selected noncomposite floor system from the model. If the noncomposite deck is assigned in the model, a warning is displayed and you will not be able to delete it.
Change Click to change the deck properties to any changed values or selections.

Any changes made to a Deck Property after it has been assigned to a floor area automatically become effective wherever that Property has been assigned.

Concrete Slab System tab

On the Concrete Slab System tab, a label for the floor system and the concrete properties and slab thickness must be specified. Concrete Slab properties for mat foundations are also defined using this dialog tab. Once defined, the concrete slabs can be assigned to mat foundations using the Foundations > Mat > Properties command (see Mat Foundations for more information on Mat Foundations.)

SettingDescription
Label Type a label used to identify this deck for assignment.
Concrete Slab Thickness Type the total thickness of the concrete slab.
f'c Type the compressive strength of the concrete.
Unit Weight Type the unit weight (density) of the concrete.
Unit Weight for Self-Weight Type the unit weight (density) of the concrete used for self-weight calculations.
Poisson's Ratio Type the Poisson's ratio for diaphragm.
Elastic Modulus Select to either Use Calculated Value by the program or Use a specified value.
Slab Stiffness Multipliers Select the method for specifying slab stiffness modifiers:
  • Crack Factors - Select this option to apply Bending (out-of-plane) and Diaphragm (in-plane) cracked section modifiers. These cracked factors will be used in both RAM Frame and RAM Concrete Gravity Analysis to modify the gross member stiffness for the associated section property. The factor specified will be multiplied directly to the calculated section property stiffness so a value of 1.0 will produce no modification and the gross section stiffness value will be used.
  • Stiffness Modifiers - Select this option to modify the stiffness in different directions and actions (in-plane and out-of-plane). These can be used to assign different properties for corrugated decks such that load is only transferred along the deck direction. Similarly, they can be used to account for cracked properties of concrete decks (in place of crack factors).

For concrete slab systems, you may also specify the angle from the global X-axis at which the stiffness modifiers act.
