Moments

This section gives the magnitude and location of the maximum positive and negative moments with the associated stresses.

SettingDescription
Span This indicates the span for which the values are being listed. It includes Left for left cantilever, Right for right cantilever, and Center for main span.
Cond This indicates the load condition. It includes:
PreCmp+ Construction Dead Load and Construction Live Load positive moment (top flange in compression). Values reported are from the support of cantilevers and at the maximum positive moment location for the mid-span of the beam (listed for composite beams only).
PreCmp- Construction Dead Load and Construction Live Load negative moment (bottom flange in compression). Values reported are from the support of cantilevers and at the maximum negative moment location for the mid-span of the beam (listed for composite beams only).
Note: The Moment Portion of the detail report is broken up into 3 separate sections, one for each cantilever (when present) and one for the mid-span. Within the cantilever section the results for PreCmp+ and PreCmp- are taken from the support end of the cantilever (even if the positive or negative moment is greater along the length of the cantilever than at its support it will not be reported in the cantilever section). For the mid-span the PreCmp+ and PreCmp- are reported for the point of maximum moments (positive and negative respectively). However, a mid-span location with a lower moment and greater unbraced length may still control the design. The results in the Controlling section of the report will consider the moments and unbraced lengths for each unbraced segment along the entire beam, not just at the cantilever supports or maximum moment points on the mid-span.
Max + Maximum Positive Moment
Max - Maximum Negative Moment
Mmax/Seff Stress condition based on the composite properties (listed for composite beams only)
Mconst/Sx+Mpost/Seff Stress condition based on the superposition of stress (listed for composite beams only).
Moment This is the moment for the indicated Span and Condition.
@ This is the location of the indicated moment, measured from the left end of the beam.
Lb This is the unbraced length for the segment containing the indicated moment. If unbraced length was not considered, as for a simple span composite beam, Lb is indicated with "---". Otherwise, if the compression flange is fully braced throughout the segment, Lb is indicated with "0.0", meaning there is no unbraced length to be considered.
Cb This is the Bending Coefficient. If the unbraced length is zero, Cb is indicated with "---".
fb This is the actual bending stress in the beam for the moment indicated. Values for the Tension Flange and Compression Flange are included.
Fb This is the allowable bending stress for the segment. Values for the Tension Flange and Compression Flange are included.
Controlling This is the controlling set of values.
fc This is the compressive stress in the concrete.
Fc This is the allowable compressive stress in the concrete.
