Viewing and Editing a Soil Table

To edit a soil table select the desired table from the list of defined Soil Tables dialog box and press the View/Edit button.

  • In the Soil Table dialog box check Enter Values to Calculate Spring Constants if the soil modulus is known.
  • In each row enter a footing depth, minimum plan dimension, corresponding soil stress capacity, and soil modulus in the respective fields.

If there is no entry provided in the Soil Table for a given combination of footing depth and minimum plan dimension then RAM Foundation will iterate between the two closest entries. It is the users responsibility to define enough information to make sure that a linear interpolation between definitions is reasonable. If the footing is smaller then the smallest soil definition or larger then the largest definition, the closest soil definition will be used without interpolation.

If a break in soil capacity based on footing depth or minimum dimension needs to be modeled, it can be defined by entering a small difference in the required dimension and the appropriate capacity. For example if the soil capacity increases from 4 ksf to 5ksf when the minimum plan dimension is larger then 5ft then the two entries would be a capacity of 4ksf at 4.9ft and 5ksf at 5.0ft.
