To specify member loads criteria

To select a building code for live load reduction and to specify how the program should handle other gravity loads, use the following procedure.

A building code by which Live Load Reduction will be calculated must be selected. The program also needs to know how to treat Roof Live Load versus Snow load, and how to count accumulated stories for the calculation of the column live load reduction.
Note: The system administrator can define the default options at the time of installation.
  1. Either:

    select Criteria > Member Loads

    or

select the Live Load Reduction tool

The Criteria - Member Loads dialog opens. You may edit any of the following optional steps.
  2. (Optional) Select the Code for Live Load Reduction.
Note: Some terminology used in the Modeler is dependent upon the Live Load Reduction Code Selection. For example, the yield strength of steel will be labeled in the Modeler as Fy, fy, or py, depending on which Code is selected here.
  3. (Optional) Select the Snow vs Roof Live Load.
  4. (Optional) Select the Roof Live Load Type.
  5. (Optional) Select the options used in Determining Number of Stories for Live Load Reduction.
  6. (Optional) Some reports, such as the Beam Design report, list the gravity loads on beams. If the Combine Beam Loads option is selected, the loads will be combined when appropriate to consolidate the loads list, making the report more compact. For example, the loads from the deck on the two sides of the beam will be listed as a single uniform load; otherwise, the loads will be listed as two separate uniform loads.
  7. Click OK. You will be prompted with a warning dialog informing you that changing the building code will cause the building to be reframed and members are required to be redesigned.
  8. Click OK.
