Adding Steel Columns Off-Grid

  1. Select the attributes for the columns to be added.
  2. Type the yield strength into the Fy edit box.
  3. Select the Column Orientation with respect to the X-Axis. If the column is skewed, select Parallel to Angle, Perpendicular to Angle, or enter the angle of the skew (between 0 and 180 degrees, measured counter-clockwise between the X-Axis and the column web).
  4. Select the Shape, either Wide Flange, Tube, or Pipe.
  5. Select the Framing, either Lateral or Gravity.
Note: Gravity members need not be modeled in Frame Only models.
  6. Type the Offset Distance from an existing column in the Distance from Reference Column edit box.
  7. Type the Offset Angle between 0 and 90 degrees from the existing column in the Angle from Reference Column edit box. The angle is measured from the X-Axis to the location of the new column.
  8. Click Add. The Add Column Off-Grid Mode dialog opens, and RAM Modeler will be in Add Column Off-Grid Mode.
  9. Click on a reference column from which the new column will be offset. Crosshairs that indicate the angle will appear.
  10. Click in the quadrant for the new column to be added.
