To modify the program defaults

To modify the program defaults used for all new models, use the following procedure.

Note: This tool should not be used to change defaults for the current model or any other existing models. Defaults for existing models may be changed in the various criteria commands.

When defaults are modified in this way, they overwrite the original defaults set at installation. All subsequent models will have the new set of defaults assigned to it. This change does not affect any previously created databases, including the currently selected database. The exception to this is the DXF defaults, which will automatically be updated to use the new values for all databases, both new and existing.

  1. Either:

select Tools > RAM Defaults Utility

    or

    select the Set Defaults tool

A dialog opens confirming you want to proceed.
  2. Click OK. The RAM Structural System Defaults dialog opens.

The RAM Structural System Defaults dialog provides a list of all of the Defaults dialogs sorted by program. Each item is preceded by a colored check box. A blue check box indicates that the defaults in the corresponding dialog are new for the current version and should be set if this is the first time the utility has been run. A gray check box indicates that the defaults in the corresponding dialog existed in previous versions of the RAM Structural System.

  3. Double-click any entry to change the default option used by the program. A dialog opens displaying the options and current default value for that entry.
  4. Select the default to use and the either:

click OK to close the dialog

    or

click Next to open the selection for the next default in the RAM Structural System Defaults list

    or

click Back to open the selection for the previous default in the RAM Structural System Defaults list

  5. Repeat step 3 until you have finished changing all the defaults necessary. A green check mark appears next to each default visited (even if that value did not change).
  6. Click Close.
