Specifying Dramix Fibres with Kingspan Deck

Dramix RC-65/60-BN Steel Fibres, a product of N.V. Bekaert S.A., may be used in conjunction with Kingspan Multideck 50, 60 and 80 for slab reinforcement. Dramix Steel Fibres may be used in lieu of, or in addition to, traditional reinforcing such as mesh.

Kingspan Multideck decks are included in the RAMUK.DCK deck table, and may be selected in the Modeler using the PropTable - Decking command. On the Composite Floor System tab, select one of the Kingspan Multideck decks from the list. When a Kingspan Multideck is selected, an option to specify that the deck is Reinforced with Dramix Steel Fibres appears. Select that option, along with the other deck and concrete properties.

Dramix Steel Fibres are only considered when BS 5950 is selected as the code to be used for beam design. When Dramix Steel Fibres are used in lieu of traditional reinforcing (e.g., mesh), the shear capacity Qp of the studs is modified by a factor of 0.87. In the design of the transverse reinforcement, the contribution of the fibres is considered. At a dosage of 30 kg/m3, the fibres provide a longitudinal shear capacity of:

7 Asv fy = 0.7 (0.0037 Acv) 900

where Acv is the area of concrete. At the dosage indicated, the fibres provide a reinforcement area equal to 0.37% of the concrete area. The design strength, fy, of the fibres is 900 N/mm2. In the Gravity Beam Design report and the Transverse Reinforcement Check report, the values listed for the Required Asv indicate the required area of tradition reinforcing, in addition to the Dramix Steel Fibres.

Dramix is ignored for edge beams.

When Dramix Steel Fibres are used, the densities of concrete used in the calculation of floor loads should be increased by 24 kg/m3 for normal weight and by 26 kg/m3 for light weight concrete.
