Beams - Add Off-Grid: Beam to Beam [Dist, Angle]

To add a beam by using a distance offset from one end of an existing beam and an angle describing the direction of the new beam:

  1. Select the Beam-To-Beam (Dist, Angle) option button.
  2. Select the frame of reference from which the Angle will be measured by clicking either the Angle Relative to Reference Beam 1 or the Angle Relative to X-Axis option button.
  3. Type the distance from one end of a reference beam span to the location of one end of the new beam in the Dist edit box.
Note: A value of 0.00 for the distance is permissible.
  4. Type the angle (0 to 90 degrees) between the reference beam or positive X-Axis, depending on the selection in Step 2, and the new beam in the Angle edit box.
  5. Click the Add button. The dialog closes and RAM Modeler enters the Add Beam Off-Grid Layout Mode.
  6. Click the reference beam span.
  7. Select the end of the reference beam span from which Dist is to be measured. Crosshairsthat indicate the angle will appear.
  8. Click in the quadrant for the new beam to be added. The closest intersection of the new beam with an existing member in the selected direction will form the second end of the beam, and the beam will then be added. The beam will automatically attach to existing grids if available, or else it will create new grids as necessary.
