Assign - Continuous - Footing Geometry

The Continuous footing geometry assignment dialog box permits the user to indicate which dimensions of the continuous footing need to be optimized by RAM Foundation and what the maximum dimension will be. If the Assign check box above the corresponding category is selected then the parameters for that category will be assigned to the footing, otherwise the current footing parameters for the given category are unchanged after the assignment.

SettingDescription
Footing Dimensions All dimensions that have a check to the left of them will be optimized by the program. The value provided in the Maximum Bound text box will be the maximum dimension that the footing will be designed for. If the footing requires a dimension larger then the maximum Bound in the given direction, it will be marked as failed. The user will then either need to modify the given dimension in this dialog box or through the View/Update dialog box found under the Process menu. If the Optimize option is not selected the user will need to enter a fixed footing dimension under the Absolute Dimension text box (the Maximum Bound will be grayed out if the Optimize option is not selected for a given dimension).

The Width dimensions can not be optimized at this point and so User Assigned dimensions must be entered.

SettingDescription
Number of Shear reinforcement Legs This indicates the number of vertical shear bar legs to use when optimizing and checking the shear reinforcement for continuous footings. On wide footings this number may need to be larger then the default value. It is the users responsibility to check for the spacing of the vertical shear bars that are defined.
Assume Transverse Bars are Hooked at Ends When selected this option assumes that the engineer will specify hooks for all transverse reinforcement bar ends and therefore the design will ignores development length checks on transverse reinforcement.
