Vibration Analysis

This output contains the results of the vibration analysis for beams. The results of two separate methods described by Murray are indicated. The output includes:

  • Beam span information, including the member size and the percent of dead and live load used in the analysis
  • Composite properties of the member, including the effective flange width and the transformed moment of inertia
  • The frequency of the member, as well as the frequency of the supporting girders if that analysis is specified by the user
  • The frequency of the vibration of the beam or system
  • The amplitude of the vibration of the beam or system
  • Method 1 results indicating the range on the Modified Reiher‑Meister Scale
  • Method 2 results indicating the level of damping required, as a percent of critical damping, to ensure that vibration will not be unsatisfactory. This value should be compared against the actual available damping from such sources as the slab itself, hung ceilings, partitions, etc.
