Assign - Base Plate

RAM Foundation automatically imports from the RAM Structural System all the available base plate data for gravity columns. However, through the Assign Base Plate dialog box the user can overwrite base plate dimensions as well as assign base plate dimensions for all steel columns that do not have them. Base plate for lateral steel columns need to be assigned manual using this dialog box.

SettingDescription
Base Plate Length and Width The length is the base plate dimension parallel to the column major direction. If the angle between the column and footing major axes is between 0 and less then 45 degrees the base plate length dimension is taken to be parallel to the footing major axis. Otherwise the base plate width dimension is taken to be parallel to the footing major axis.
Percent of Overhang Assumed Rigid The value defines a reduction in the overhang distance between the column face and the edge of the base plate. This value is used to account for the effective base plate dimension in relation to the actual base plate dimension. Most codes assume that only half the distance from the column perimeter to the base plate edge can be assumed as ridge, which would be a value of 50%. However, when stiffeners or extra thick base plates are used that value can be raised to a maximum of 100%.
