Westok Cellular Beam

Figure below shows a wide flange beam cut in a cellular pattern and the resulting Cellular Beam. A Cellular Beam designated as Standard Cut is one with minimal loss in material when the cut is made. For a Ribbon Cut Cellular Beam a ribbon-like pattern forms when the circular pattern is made; the thickness of the ribbon may be varied to accomplish a specific depth.

Cellular Beam labels begin with the net section nominal depth listed, followed by "x", followed by the flange width of the top Tee, followed by "/", followed by the flange width of the bottom Tee, followed by "x", followed by the nominal weight per metre of the beam, which is the same as the weight per meter of the standard beam from which the Cellular Beam was manufactured. The label ends in "CB" for Symmetric Cellular Beams and "ACB" for Asymmetric Cellular Beams. In the event that the beam is symmetric, only a single flange width is listed and "/" is excluded from the label.

For example, a 774x210/229x92ACB has a net section nominal depth of 774mm, a top Tee flange width of 210mm, a bottom Tee flange width of 229mm and weighs 92 kg/m. Since the top half and the bottom half are from different beams, the beam is asymmetric and "ACB" is appended to the beam label.

For 732x229x90CB Cellular Beam, both top and bottom Tees are the same with a common flange width of 229mm. The nominal net depth is 732mm and nominal weight is 90kg/m. Since the beam is symmetric, "CB" is appended to the beam label.

For Cellular Beams the actual depth is a function of the web cell diameter and the cell spacing (pitch). The nominal depth is the actual depth rounded to a whole number. The actual depth is shown on the reports.
