Shear Reinforcement Capacity

The contribution of transverse steel to shear strength is based on the number of shear legs the user has assigned to the beam in the Detailing Defaults or Reinforcement Layout menus.

For beams, shear reinforcement is provided at all locations where:
V u > ϕ s V c 2 ACI 11.5.5.1
For joists, shear reinforcement is provided at all locations where:

Vu > φsVc ACI 11.5.5.1(b)

Shear reinforcement capacity is calculated as:

V s = A v f y d s Equation ACI 11-15

Which is limited by:

V s ,max = 8 f c b d ACI 11.5.6.9
