Layout - Beams - Brace Points

The Brace Points command provides you with means to add or delete brace points along the top and/or bottom flange of beams in the model. This information is utilized by the RAM Steel Beam Design module when designing Gravity beams, and by RAM Frame when performing a Code Check on Lateral Frame beams.

Selecting the Layout - Beams - Brace Points command causes the User Brace Point Layout Mode dialog box to appear.

SettingDescription
To add brace points:
  1. Specify the Distance from Selected Span End by entering a value in the edit box.
  2. Indicate whether the top and/or bottom flange will be braced using the check boxes.
  3. Click Add.
  4. Click the target cursor on the span of the beam to which the brace point is to be assigned.
  5. Click the rectangle on the end of the span from which the distance entered in step 1 will be measured.

A mark will be displayed on the beam to show that the brace point has been placed. A triangle indicates the bottom flange is braced. An inverted triangle indicates the top flange is braced.

SettingDescription
To delete brace points:
  1. Click the Delete button.
  2. Click the target cursor on the brace point to remove.
