Design Defaults

Criteria related to unbraced length and span/depth ratio limits can be specified using the Criteria - Design Defaults command.

The maximum allowable beam span-to-depth ratio can be specified. A value of 0.00 indicates that there is no constraint.

The user may specify whether or not to have the Beam Design module perform the unbraced length check. If an unbraced length check is to be performed, other criteria relevant to that check (e.g., Cb) must be set.

The Technical Notes (Chapter 10) provide an in depth look at how the Beam Design module handles the unbraced length checks.

When any of the AISC codes are selected as the steel design code, an option to reduce the composite Ieff per the AISC 360 Commentary (multiply by 0.75) can be selected. See Section 10.11.1 for more information.

When BS 5950 is selected as the steel design code, additional parameters associated with the vibration/frequency analysis can be specified. See 11.5 for more information.
