Selecting the Criteria - Smartbeams command will cause the Smartbeam Criteria dialog box to appear with the current Smartbeam Criteria shown. Change these criteria by entering new values for Smartbeam Criteria in the appropriate edit boxes.

Criteria for both castellated beams (hexagonal openings) and cellular beams (round openings) are specified.

During the optimization the program iterates the e and dt dimensions to find the optimum dt and the acceptable range of e for castellated beams, and the Do and S dimensions to find the optimal Do and the acceptable range of S for cellular beams. The increment values used in the iteration are specified here.

The type of connection (Web or Bearing) used to connect Smartbeams to Beams (including other Smartbeams), Columns and Walls is specified here. This affects the location of the holes.

Clicking Cancel will cancel any changes made and return you to RAM Steel Beam Design.

Clicking OK will cause a warning message dialog box to appear on the screen stating that proceeding with this command will clear all previously optimized Smartbeam sizes. You are given the option to continue the stud criteria change by clicking OK or canceling the change by clicking Cancel.
