View / Update Westok Cellular Beam

The View/Update command works similarly for Cellular Beam design as for Steel beam design. The design of individual members can be viewed, altered, and saved.

The Optimize and Analyze buttons may be selected to optimize or analyze the beam. When Optimize is selected, the program finds Top and Bottom Tee sizes which satisfy diameter and pitch requirements and any other restrictions imposed on the beam in the Modeler. When Analyze is selected, the program analyzes the Top and Bottom Tee sizes, with the restrictions imposed on the Diameter, Pitch and Tee depths in the View/Update dialog box.

Results from a View/Update analysis will not be saved until the Update Data Base button is selected. The user may decide to optimize the diameter and/or pitch by unchecking their respective optimize box and specifying the diameter and/or pitch. Studs are always optimized unless an Update Data Base is performed on the beam. The program will analyze changes to the “Actual” stud count when the Analyze button is selected for the beams for which Update Data Base has been performed.

Design results can be viewed by selecting View Results. Size, cell, and stud configuration can be saved back to the database by selecting Update Data Base.

SettingDescription
Tee Depths The Use Specified Depth check box may be checked to revise the Top and Bottom Tee depths. The newly specified Tee depths will only be used when Analyze is performed and will be ignored when the Optimize button is selected. The total depth for the revised Tees cannot exceed the optimum depth of the selected Tees.
Diameter and Pitch Uncheck the optimize check boxes for the diameter and pitch to specify new values to either the diameter or pitch. Leaving the optimize check box checked will result in an optimization of the checked parameter during an Optimize and an Analyze. When the boxes for diameter and pitch are both unchecked, the program enforces pitch to diameter limitations when an Analyze is performed.
Design Information The design information box shows the controlling design and interaction for designs. The Stop light will show green when the design is successful and show red when the design fails. When design parameters change in the View/Update dialog box, the Stop light changes to yellow. When an optimization fails to yield a design, a “No Design” message is displayed. When an Analyze is performed on a beam for which an Update Data Base has been performed, failing cells or posts will be highlighted in red in the Openings Data table. The indices for the failing cells in the beam profile will also be displayed in red.
Infills Cells may be infilled by double clicking the cells in the beam profile at the bottom of the View/Update dialog box. Similarly, the cells may be infilled by double clicking the cell's row in the Openings Data table. To remove infills, double click the cells previously infilled.

A pair of triangles will be displayed over locations where beam framing occurs. Infills may also be placed at cell locations where user assigned point load(s) in excess of 20% of the Top Tee shear capacity is placed. The program will first infill cells when point loads exceed 20% of the Top Tee shear capacity, but will then remove and recheck the beam for design requirements. If the design recheck is successful, the infills are not replaced. If the design recheck is however not successful, the removed infills are replaced.

When changes are made to Tee sizes, Diameter or Pitch, the cell arrangement and any infills are discarded. A user assigned infilling the View/Update dialog box, un-checks the optimize check boxes for Diameter and Pitch.
