Shear

Last updated: February 01, 2022
Shear is designed according to the provisions in 6.2. The following assumptions are taken:
  • Enhanced shear capacity of concrete next to supports is ignored (6.2.2 (5))
  • Longitudinal bars extending at least a length, d, beyond a particular section are considered as contributing to the shear strength of the section, where ‘d’ is the effective depth of the section
For members requiring more than the minimum level of shear reinforcement, this is designed according to 6.2.3 (3). θ is calculated using the following formula:
θ = 0.5 sin 1 ( 2 V e d a c b . z . v . f c d )
with the limitation 1 ≤ cotθ ≤ 2.5, and notation as in 6.2.3 (1) of the code.

Only vertical shear reinforcement is designed by the program.
