Criteria - Steel Design Codes

Selecting Criteria > Design Codes opens the Beam Steel Design Codes dialog. Select a different code for steel beam or C-Beam™ designs by selecting the corresponding option.

RAM Steel Beam can perform designs based on several steel design specifications. These specifications include:
  • "Specification for Structural Steel Buildings." July 7, 2016. ANSI/AISC 360-16 ASD (Allowable Strength Design) and LRFD (Load Resistance Factored Design). American Institute of Steel Construction. Manual of Steel Construction (15th Edition).
  • "Specification for Structural Steel Buildings." June 22, 2010. ANSI/AISC 360-10 ASD (Allowable Strength Design) and LRFD (Load Resistance Factored Design). American Institute of Steel Construction. Manual of Steel Construction (14th Edition).
  • "Specification for Structural Steel Buildings."March 9, 2005. ANSI/AISC 360-05, ASD (Allowable Strength Design) and LRFD (Load Resistance Factored Design). American Institute of Steel Construction. Manual of Steel Construction (13th Edition).
  • "Specification for Structural Steel Buildings - Allowable Stress Design and Plastic Design." June 1, 1989. American Institute of Steel Construction. Dialog Controls

SettingDescription
Steel Code Contains a list of available design codes and—in the case of ASD 9th Edition and BS 5950: 2000—optional design provisions.
Note: Selecting certain codes may result in additional options being made available or active for specifying the appropriate code-specific criteria.
Smartbeam Code Contains a list of available design codes and—in the case of ASD 9th Edition—optional design provisions.

Clicking Cancel will cancel any new selection made and return you to the program.

Clicking OK will cause a warning message dialog box to appear on the screen stating that proceeding with this command will clear all previously optimized beam sizes. You are given the option to continue the building code change by clicking OK or canceling the change by clicking Cancel.
