Steel design criteria for CSA S16
In this worksheet the parameters needed for steel design according to CSA S16 are provided:
- w2 (omega2)
- w3 (omega3)
- CLS (Continuous Lateral Support)
- Lb Top (Top unbraced length for bending)
- Lb Bot (Bottom unbraced length for bending)
- L33 (Unbraced length compression 33)
Sets the unbraced length of a compression member in the major principal axis, and it is used to determine the factored axial compressive resistance according to Clause 13.3. - L22 (Unbraced length compression 22)
It sets the unbraced length of a compression member in the minor principal axis used to determine the factored axial compressive resistance according to Clause 13.3. - Value type K
This parameter can be None, Recommended or Theoretical and it is used to determine the approximate values of effective length factor K, according to Figure F.1 of the design standard. - K33
Sets the member effective length factor in the major principal axis, and it is used to determine the effective length of the compression member according to Clause 13.3. This value is considered by default as 1 when the Value Type K is set as None. - K22
Sets the member effective length factor in the minor principal axis used to determine the effective length of the compression member according to Clause 13.3. This value is considered by default as 1 when the Value Type K is set as None. - CFT Restraint
This option indicates whether the member has continuous torsional or flexural-torsional buckling restraint. If so, the limit state of flexural, torsional, or flexural-torsional buckling (Clause 13.3.2) will be ignored in the compression design. - K Torsion
Sets the effective length factor for torsional buckling according to Clause 13.3.2. This values is considered by default as 1. - L Torsion
Sets the torsional unbraced length used to calculate the torsional or flexural torsional buckling according to Clause 13.3.2. - Consider Eccentricity
Enabling this option the single angle member slenderness is calculated according to Clause 13.3.1. When this options is disabled the factored compressive resistance is calculated according to Clause 13.3.3 - Conn. TSL
This option is only for single angle compression members and defines that the member is connected through the shorter leg. It is used to determine the single angle slenderness ratio according to Clause 13.3.3.2 - Planar Elem.
This option is used for single angles in compression and defines that the member is part of a planar truss or space truss. If the option is disabled the program will consider that the member is part of a space truss. It is used to determine the single angle slenderness ratio according to Clause 13.3.3.2 or Clause 13.3.3.3 - Connector distribution
This option is used to define the intermediate connector distribution for built-up sections with cover plates. It can be selected between Staggered and Aligned. It is used to determine the maximum intermediate connector spacing according to Clause 19.1.3. - Intermediate connectors
This option is used to define the intermediate connectors type for built-up members composed of two interconnected shapes (e.g. back to back angles or channels) and can be selected between Snug-Tight, Pretensioned bolts and welds. It is used to determine the effective length factor needed to determine the maximum slenderness ratio of the component part according to Clause 19.1.4. - a (Connectors)
Distance between connectors in built-up members. It is used to calculate the equivalent slenderness ratio of the built-up member according to Clause 19.1.4 - Manufacturing Cat.
Defines the manufacturing category of hollow sections (e.g. HSS). It is used to determine the parameter of compressive resistance according to Clause 13.3.1. - a (Stiffeners)
- LHP (Load height position)
