Example 1.0 – General Design Method - TENSION: In this example, the strength the gusset plate shown in Figure 11 is calculated using the simplified design method. The gusset plate is 3/8 in. The gusset plate is 3/8 in. thick of A572 Grade 50 material. The LFRD and ASD loads are 50.0 kips tension/30 kips compression and 33.3 kips tension/20 kips compression, respectively.
