The transfer of forces in a punching zone is extremely complex, and the load path changes with increased cracking in the zone. There are no simple general models to predict the behavior of the punching zone. Three-dimensional truss behavior is probably the simplest model that can be applied to a punching zone, but even this model is too complex for design purposes.
