Drawing design strips near walls

There are some considerations for drawing design strips near walls.

Omission of design strips parallel to walls

Since a wall is a continuous support, there is usually no need to design a floor over, and parallel to, a wall for strength.

You may, however, be interested in the minimum reinforcement requirements and so a design strip could be warranted.

Strips over or under walls will occasionally have unrealistic stress peaks as the forces and moments are continually transferred back and forth between the wall elements and the slab elements. For this reason, some designers eliminate span segments over and under walls.
