Finite elements do not exist (and hence there is no structure) until the mesh has been generated. You need to have defined the mesh input objects (using the procedure described in the preceding chapter) before generating the mesh.

It is preferable to generate the mesh as soon as possible, although it is possible to draw additional objects on other layers (such as loads) before generation.
