With the Selection tool (
), select span segments 9-3 and 12-1 as shown in the previous figure.

Click the Orient Span Cross Section tool (
).

Click near one of the span segments, and then again to the left or right of first click.
The orientation line half way along the span strip is now
"horizontal".
