ProjectWise Web View Help

Viewing and Downloading Documents

Clicking a document in ProjectWise Web View will either open the document for viewing, or download it.

For Office documents, PDFs, images, and text files, clicking the document in the document list opens the document in a new browser tab.

For CAD documents (such as DGN, DWG, RVT) and other document types, clicking the document downloads the document to your local file system, and then you can open it as usual in the appropriate application.

You can also download selected documents or an entire folder of documents using the Download icon.

Note: To be able to open an Office document for viewing in Office for the web, you must be logged in to the datasource with a Bentley IMS account, and you must have a Microsoft Office 365 subscription.
Depending on the permissions set on a document, you may or may not be able to view or download the file attached to the document. Specifically, you need the File Read permission on a document to be able to view or download the attached file. These permissions are set in ProjectWise Explorer. If you do not have File Read permission on a particular document, there will be a special, smaller icon in the lower right corner of the document icon, like this:

If you do not see this smaller icon on the document icon, you can assume that you do have File Read permission on the document and you should be able to view or download the document. Note that this smaller icon is also the same icon that indicates if a document is a non-active version (non-active versions can viewed or downloaded, assuming you have File Read permission on the version).

Downloading a Document

To download a standalone document:

  1. Click the check box next to the document and from the action menu select Download.

A copy of the file attached to the document is downloaded.

To download a master document (DGN, DWG, or RVT):

  1. Click the check box next to the document and click the Download icon (or select Download from the action menu to the right of the document).
  2. When prompted, click Yes to download the references along with the master document, or click No if you just want to download the master document.

When you download a master document and its references, the entire set is downloaded to a single ZIP file.

Note: After downloading a master file and its references, you will have to manually repair the links to the references in the master file.

Downloading a Folder

  1. Click the check box next to a folder and click the Download icon (or select Download from the action menu to the right of the folder).

The selected folder and its subfolders and documents are all downloaded to a single ZIP file.
