Spatial Location Scanning
The Spatial Location Scanning tool is used to create a spatial location for ProjectWise documents, by extracting spatial information from documents in the datasource, storing the information in the database, and then assigning the information to the processed document. Spatial locations can also be batch assigned based on attribute values.
In order to scan a document with the Spatial Location Scanning tool, you must have Write and File Read privileges to that document, and the document must be checked in. If a document is ignored by the scanning process, it will not be specified in the log file. However, the log file information clearly underlines the access and status constraints.
The Spatial Location Scanning tool uses the following spatial metadata scanners:

| MicroStation Scanner | Used to scan DGN and DWG documents for spatial information. The scanner uses the DGN's or DWG's total extent as the spatial location. For DGN's the scanner can optionally obtain a coordinate system if there is a type 66 element in the DGN (coordinate system information). |
| Raster Scanner | Used to scan raster documents. This scanner can open most raster file formats. It uses the raster's clip shape as spatial location if there is one, otherwise it will use the raster extent. A coordinate system can be obtained if the raster contains GeoKeys (a geoTiff for example). |
| ESRI Scanner | Used to scan ESRI shapefiles. This scanner can extract extent and coordinate system information from ESRI SHP shapefiles. |
| Point Cloud Scanner | Used to scan point cloud files (POD). This scanner will scan the spatial location of any point cloud file stored in ProjectWise. |
