Using Different Versions of ProjectWise Explorer and ProjectWise Design Integration Server Together
You can use the current version of ProjectWise Explorer with an older version server, and you can use an older version ProjectWise Explorer with the current version server.
This section shows which client and server versions you can use together, and some issues you might encounter when your users are working in the same datasource but using different versions of ProjectWise Explorer.

- You can only use the ProjectWise V8i (8.11.5) Import Wizard ( ) with the current ProjectWise Design Integration Server if you do NOT log in as an administrator. Instead, in the Import Wizard, you must use the option, .
-
ProjectWise V8i
(SELECTseries 1) introduced a document permission called
Change Workflow State. This permission can be
set at the project, folder, or document level, and lets administrators decide
on a project-by-project basis which users can change the states of which
documents. Since this permission is not visible in
ProjectWise Explorer V8i (8.11.5),
ProjectWise Explorer V8i (8.11.5) users will experience the following
behaviors when this setting is on or off in the current version of
ProjectWise Explorer:
If the user's Change Workflow State document permission is turned OFF for a particular document in the current version of ProjectWise Explorer, that same user can still change the workflow state of the same document from the menu in ProjectWise Explorer V8i (8.11.5), as long as they have the Write document permission turned ON for that document. If the user's Change Workflow State document permission is turned ON for a particular document in the current version of ProjectWise Explorer, that same user will not be able to change the workflow state of the same document from the menu in ProjectWise Explorer V8i (8.11.5), if the Write document permission is turned OFF for that document. In this case however, the user will still be able to change the state of the document through the Workflow & State tab of the parent folder's Properties dialog. - ProjectWise V8i (SELECTseries 1) introduced a document permission called Free. This permission can be set at the document, folder, or work area level, and lets administrators decide which users can free which documents that are checked out or exported by other users. Since this permission is not visible from ProjectWise Explorer V8i (8.11.5), those users will not be able to free another user's document, even if they are capable of doing so in the current version of ProjectWise Explorer.

ProjectWise V8i
(SELECTseries 1) introduced a feature of the
ProjectWise Design Integration Server called
cancelable queries. This feature controls the
maximum number of records that may be returned in one search, and how long a
search will be allowed to run before the search stops. When a search times out,
the results gathered up to that point are returned to the user. The default
maximum number of records that can be returned is 1024, and the default timeout
setting is 30 seconds. For
ProjectWise Explorer V8i (8.11.5) users, if one of their searches finds more
than the maximum allowed records, the search will fail with the error:
[58152] Search execution error. Either invalid parameters were passed or an internal execution error occurred
If your ProjectWise Explorer V8i (8.11.5) users are experiencing problems because of this feature, then the feature can either be disabled, or the maximum number of records returned can be raised, or the timeout setting can be extended, all through the ProjectWise Design Integration Server's DMSKRNL.CFG file.
- Shapefile sets and raster sets are handled differently in the current version of ProjectWise Explorer than they were in ProjectWise V8i (8.11.5). If your ProjectWise Explorer V8i (8.11.5) users happen to break a shapefile set or a raster set that was created in the current version of ProjectWise Explorer, simply run the Scan for References and Link Sets wizard again from the current version of ProjectWise Explorer to rescan the affected documents.
- ProjectWise V8i (SELECTseries 1) (08.11.07.133) introduced the Predefined level for managed workspaces. If some of your users are still using a pre-08.11.07.133 version of ProjectWise Explorer, then it is recommended that you do not place any configuration settings blocks at the Predefined level. If a user is using a pre-08.11.07.133 version of ProjectWise Explorer and tries to open a document in a managed workspace, the copy out will fail if any configuration settings blocks exist in the Predefined level.
- Reality mesh models
(.3MX) might get dropped from the logical set if you are
not using the current versions of
ProjectWise Explorer and
MicroStation.
ProjectWise CONNECT Edition Update 2 introduced reference scanning support for scanning DGNs that have reality mesh models (.3MX) attached as references. If you re-scan a DGN file that already has a 3MX file attached using a previous version of ProjectWise Explorer, the 3MX file will be dropped from the logical set. Also, if you open a DGN that has a 3MX file attached using a supported MicroStation V8i version and then attach some other references, the 3MX reference will be dropped when you check in or update server copy of the DGN.
