To Generate a Document Code for a Single Document

  1. Open a folder that has the environment applied which contains the document code definition.
  2. Select a document in that folder and select Document > Attributes > Document Code.

    The Document Code dialog opens.

  3. If the document already has a document code defined for it, click Clear to remove the code from the document.
  4. Enter the required codes in the relevant fields.

    Required fields are in bold.

  5. Click Advanced.

The dialog expands to let you define the way in which the number part of the document code is generated. Options are:

    SettingDescription
Next Available Uses the next available number above the highest existing code number. This is the default option.
First Unused Uses the lowest available number. This may reuse the number code from a deleted document.
Range Used in conjunction with the previous options. It allocates a range of numbers, which you enter in the adjacent Lower and Upper fields, from which the number code is generated.
  6. Click Generate.

The number part of the code is generated according to the rules you established in the Advanced section of the dialog, and the document code displays in the Document Code field.

  7. Click Save.
