Format Dialog

Used to add file formats and to assign properties and features to each file format in an Output File Formats component. Opens when you click Add or Edit in the Output File Formats dialog.

SettingDescription
Format Type (Only enabled if you are adding additional file formats to the Output File Format component) Lets you add additional file formats to an Output File Format component.
  • PDF
  • CALS
  • JPEG
  • TIFF
Format Properties tab Allows you to set properties and features for the selected format type.
  • Resolution — Specifies the output resolution in dots-per-inch (dpi) or dots-per-millimeter (dpmm). Resolution settings for dots-per-inch can range from 100 to 1016, while resolution settings for dots-per-millimeter can range from 4 to 40.
  • File compression — (Available only for the TIFF file format) Lets you to select the TIFF file compression method that will be used when creating renditions. The goal is to select the method that will reduce the file size with little or no loss in image quality. The TIFF file compression methods are:
    • G3 (monochrome) — (Bitonal images)
    • G4 (monochrome) — (Bitonal images)
    • PackBits — (Gray Scale, Palette, Bitonal images)
  • Rotation — Specifies the rotation for the PDF file. Valid selections are 0, 90, 180, and 270 degrees.
  • Version compatibility — Specifies the output version for the PDF document.
  • PDF Standard — Specifies the standard to which the PDF will comply. When set to None, the system creates a standard PDF that can contain many intelligent PDF features, including bookmarks, searchable text, and levels/files (optional content), etc.

When set to PDF/A-1b, the system creates a PDF that is compliant with the PDF/A-1b standard. The PDF/A-1b standard is a subset of the full PDF standard that is designed for long-term archiving use. Many features of the full PDF standard are not allowed in PDF/A-1b documents. PDF/A-1b output is created with no feedback given regarding any non-compliant data, and the system will silently remove non-compliant features such as searchable text, levels/files (optional content), and bookmarks. Under certain circumstances, when PDF/A-1b is selected, the system may rasterize the page in order to maintain compliance. This can happen if the PDF references an external font.

  • Include URLs/Engineering Links — Specifies whether you want URLs/Engineering links included in the PDF document. If the check box is set, URLs/Engineering links that are associated with an element's geometry are accessible when viewing the PDF document. Links that are specified by a Design Script are always included in the PDF file.
  • Searchable text — Specifies whether text strings from the DGN file are searchable. If this control is set, the Unicode font control is enabled to allow you to select a Unicode font for searching text.
  • Levels/files (Optional content) — Specifies whether you want Levels/Files (Optional Content) included in the PDF document. If the check box is set, the DGN file's levels and references are accessible when viewing the PDF file by selecting the Layers tab. If clear, the Levels/Files will not be included in the PDF document.
  • RGB JPEG compression — Setting this control indicates that you want to enable JPEG compression for RGB (Red/Green/Blue) rasters in the PDF document. Enabling JPEG compression reduces the raster data size in the PDF file; hence, reducing the PDF file size.
  • Enable saved views/references bookmarks — Setting this control enables the automatic generation of saved views and reference bookmarks in the PDF document.
  • Create one multi-page PDF document for each IPS file — If set, the system creates one multi-page PDF document for each IPS file instead of individual PDF documents for each sheet in the IPS file. This multi-page PDF document will be placed in the same folder as the IPS file, if the Output Destination Folder dialog is configured to place renditions in the source file folder.
Security tab
  • Require a password to open a document — Specifies whether to assign a password to open the PDF document. When set, users will be required to type in a password to open the PDF document. To set a document open password, type in the same password in both the Document open password and Confirm password fields.
  • Use a password to restrict printing and changes — Specifies whether you want a Permissions password on the PDF document, and if you want to place certain restrictions on printing and allowing users to make changes to the PDF document. When you set a Permissions password, users are required to type in the Permissions password to override the restrictions placed on the document. To set a Permissions password, type in the same password in both the Permissions password and Confirm password fields.
  • Print allowed — (Enabled only if a Permissions password is set for the PDF document) Allows you to place printing restrictions on the PDF document. Users will be required to type in the Permissions password to override the restrictions placed on the document. For Print allowed, you can choose:
    • None — Prevents users from printing the PDF document.
    • Low resolution (150 dpi) — Allow users to print the PDF document at a resolution up to 150 dots per inch.
    • High resolution — Allow users to print the PDF document at any resolution up to the resolution set for the PDF document.
  • Changes allowed — (Enabled only if a Permissions password is set for the PDF document) Allows you to place certain restrictions on making changes to the PDF document. Users will be required to type in the Permissions password to override the restrictions placed on the document. For Changes allowed, you can choose:
    • None — Users cannot make changes to the PDF document, including filling in signature and form fields.
    • Inserting, deleting, and rotating pages — Users can insert, delete, and rotate pages in the PDF document.
    • Filling in form fields and signing — Users can fill in forms and add digital signatures in the PDF document, but cannot add comments or create form fields.
    • Commenting, filling in form fields, and signing — Users can fill in forms, and add digital signatures and comments.
    • All except extract pages — Users can change the PDF document using any method listed in the Changes allowed list box, except they cannot remove pages from the document.
