User Properties Dialog

Used to control a user's access to the datasource, and what that user can do in the datasource.

General tab

SettingDescription
Name Sets the name of the user account. If you are using this dialog to create a Logical account, this name can be anything. If you are using this dialog to add an existing Windows account to the datasource, the name must match the name of a valid Windows account.
Description Optional, this field is used to provide a description for the user.
Email Optional, this field is used to provide the user's email address.
Type Specifies what type of ProjectWise account this is:
  • Logical - A logical account, also called a ProjectWise native account, is an account that is manually created and managed by the administrator, whose user name and password are stored in the ProjectWise database.
  • Windows - A Windows account is an account that is manually created and managed by the administrator, but which leverages its user name and password from a Windows domain account. Windows account passwords are not stored in the ProjectWise database.
  • Windows - synchronized - A Windows - synchronized account is an account that leverages its user name and password from a Windows domain account, but is created and managed by ProjectWise User Synchronization Service. Windows - synchronized account passwords are not stored in the ProjectWise database.
  • Bentley IMS - A Bentley IMS account is an account that is associated to a Bentley profile, so that the user can log in to the datasource with their Bentley IMS account credentials using Bentley IMS authentication. These accounts can be manually created by the administrator, or created automatically the first time the user logs in. Bentley IMS account passwords are not stored in the ProjectWise database.
Windows domain When the account Type is set to Windows, this field becomes enabled for you to specify the domain to which the user account belongs.
Password When the account Type is set to Logical, this field becomes enabled for you to create or modify the password for the user's account.
Verify password When the account Type is set to Logical, this field also becomes enabled for you to retype the password for the user's account, if you have just created or modified the password.
Account is disabled If on, the selected user will no longer be able to access this datasource.

Bentley IMS tab

This tab is used to associate a user's ProjectWise account with their Bentley IMS account.

SettingDescription
Identity name The primary email address of the user's Bentley IMS account.
Identity provider This field will be automatically populated with the address of the identity provider, which is https://ims.bentley.com/, once the user logs in using Bentley IMS authentication, or once the administrator runs the next Bentley IMS user synchronization (whichever comes first).
Disassociate If the ProjectWise account is associated with a Bentley IMS account, you can click the Disassociate button to unassociate the accounts. This is useful if you want to associate the ProjectWise account to some other Bentley IMS account.

See Adding Users with Bentley IMS Accounts to the Datasource.

Settings tab

Contains the user's personal user settings, which determine what the user can and cannot do, in general, with documents, folders, and work areas. User settings also determine what items the user sees in ProjectWise Explorer; for example whether or not versions display, or where or not custom folders display.

When the Can change... setting is on for a particular category, that means the user will be able to see and change the settings for that category from the Settings tab of the User Properties dialog in ProjectWise Explorer.

Each category can be expanded to display its settings. If an icon appears to the left of a setting, that generally means the setting can be expanded to display suboptions.

See User Properties Dialog > Settings Tab.

SettingDescription

Lets the administrator see when a user's account was created, and when that user has logged in and out. Note that these actions are only recorded if the respective audit trail logging options (Log User Create, Log Logins, Log Logouts) are also turned on in this datasource. This tab will not be visible to users in ProjectWise Explorer.

Managed WorkSpace tab

In ProjectWise Administrator you can apply configuration settings blocks globally at the datasource level (Datasource Properties dialog), and also to specific users here on the Managed WorkSpace tab of the User Properties dialog. In ProjectWise Explorer, all folders a user has access to will automatically inherit the assigned configuration settings blocks during that user's session.

Personal WorkSpace tab

Used to create the configuration variables for a user's personal workspace, when using managed configurations. See "Configuring Personal Workspace Settings" in the ProjectWise Explorer help.
