Every spatial location in ProjectWise is associated with a two-dimensional, planar coordinate system in which x measures horizontal distance and y measures vertical distance. Each point on the plane is defined by an x,y coordinate. You can use multiple coordinate systems in the same datasource. If you do, you must set one of them as the reference coordinate system.

Right-click the Coordinate Systems datasource node and select:

• Add from Dictionary — to add a coordinate system to the datasource from the delivered dictionary of existing coordinate systems.
• Add Local — to add a local coordinate system to the datasource.
• Background Map Setup Assistant — to create a background map using a wizard. It is not a replacement of the entire background maps creation process, but a tool to easily and quickly create a background map. All of the options selected in the assistant will be added to the Coordinate Systems and the Background Maps datasource nodes.
• Properties — to apply granular security to this datasource node.
