Pre-populating Caches

Cache directories can either be populated on demand as described above, or in advance by an administrator using the ProjectWise FetchFiles tool. Using this tool, you can synchronize an entire remote storage area's files into a local server's cache, and then periodically update the cache so that file download time is minimized at all times for all users. Pre-population of a cache is also referred to as active caching.

Whether or not you practice active caching, passive caching is always enabled in a caching configuration. For example, even if you actively update your caches every night, the cache will still be updated on demand throughout the workday as users check out and copy out remote documents.
