A full text indexing
extraction processes all documents in the datasource whether or not any
additional iFilters are installed; however, if the appropriate iFilter is not
installed for a particular file type, then no text will be indexed from
documents of that file type. Therefore, if you install an iFilter after having
run full text indexing extractions on the datasource, you will need to mark for
reprocessing (since they will have already been successfully processed) all
folders containing documents you want to be processed by the newly installed
filter. Text from those documents will be indexed on the next processing pass.
You can use wildcard
characters * _ ? in your full text searches, but the wildcard must be used with
some other text - your search cannot be just a wildcard character. For example,
bent* is OK but just
* is not OK.
