Associating Applications to Spatial Scanners
The Spatial Location Scanning tool in ProjectWise Explorer uses spatial metadata scanners to extract spatial locations and coordinate systems from documents.
In order for a scanner to know which documents to scan, ProjectWise applications must be associated to the appropriate spatial metadata scanner. A ProjectWise application can only be associated to one scanner. To change an application's association from one scanner to another, you must first unassociate it from the current scanner.
CAUTION: No validation is made as to which application is added to which scanner. Please choose the applications carefully, making sure that the selected ProjectWise applications are associated with files that the scanner can process.
The Spatial Location Scanning tool uses the following spatial metadata scanners:
| Scanner | Description |

| MicroStation Scanner | Used to scan DGN and DWG documents for spatial information. The scanner uses the DGN's or DWG's total extent as the spatial location. For DGN's the scanner can optionally obtain a coordinate system if there is a type 66 element in the DGN (coordinate system information). |
| Raster Scanner | Used to scan raster documents. This scanner can open most raster file formats. It uses the raster's clip shape as spatial location if there is one, otherwise it will use the raster extent. A coordinate system can be obtained if the raster contains GeoKeys (a geoTiff for example). |
| ESRI Scanner | Used to scan ESRI shapefiles. This scanner can extract extent and coordinate system information from ESRI SHP shapefiles. |
| Point Cloud Scanner | Used to scan point cloud files (POD). This scanner will scan the spatial location of any point cloud file stored in ProjectWise. |
