Inserting an anchor bolt using the dialog

To insert a parametric anchor bolt or anchor bolt pattern using the ProStructures dialog, use the following procedure.

Note: Data entered manually into the Anchor Bolt dialog will not be written into the database for reuse.
  1. Select (Anchor Bolt). The Bolt Styles dialog opens.
  2. Select the appropriate tab for the type of anchor bolt you want to place. The full set of anchor bolt parameters is displayed on the graphic.
  3. Type or select values for the following:
    1. Click […] (Select Bolt Database) adjacent to the anchor rod diameter dimension lines to select the diameter of the anchor rod from a database.
      Note: You can directly type diameter value, but selecting a database value is recommended. Any previously typed values will be overwritten with values selected form the database.
    2. (Optional) (Anchor bolts only) If the plate is not modeled, type the value in the Pl Thk field.
    3. (Optional) (Anchor bolts only) Type a value in the Grout Thk field for grout.
    4. (Dowels or Studs only) Select the dowel or stud you want to use.
    5. Type length values appropriate for the selected anchor bolt type:
      • anchor bolt extension above the surface
      • anchor bolt length
      • anchor bolt depth to middle plate
      • anchor bolt depth between middle and bottom plates
      • bend radius
      • hook/bend length
      All lengths are indicated with dimension lines (where appropriate for the anchor bolt type) in the dialog graphic.
  4. For the optional accessories along the anchor bolt:
    1. Set check box the option for an accessory. The parameter field, database lookup control, and associated accessories are activated.
    2. Click […] adjacent to the accessory to select a value from a database. You can type accessory values directly, but selecting a record from a database value is recommend.
    3. Repeat steps 4a and 4b for each accessory you want to add to the anchor bolt.
  5. Type or select the style, part, etc. data in the lower portion of the anchor type tabs.
    Tip: You can also save or load anchor bolt styles.
  6. Select Placement Pattern information:
    1. Select the Arrange Type. The placement pattern group fields update.
    2. Type the rectangular or polar placement pattern parameters.
      Note: To create a linear pattern, select the Rectangular option and then leave the Y Direction Pattern field empty.
    3. Select an Orientation for the anchor bolts.
    4. (Optional) (Rectangular only) Set the Diagonal option to rotate corner anchors by 45°.
    5. (Optional) Select a pattern justification option.
  7. (Optional) Select the Assignment tab and make assignments for the anchor bolts as needed.
  8. Select one of the insertion method options:
    Insertion Method Description
    Create by selecting plate Click this tool and then select an existing plate with holes in the model. Anchor bolts are inserted into any holes with diameters larger than the anchor bolt diameter. A message will be displayed if the selected plate has holes with a diameter less than that of the anchor bolt.
    Create by using 3 points Click this tool and then select an insertion point in the model, followed by a point for the upward direction, and finally a point in the X direction.
    The anchor bolts are rendered in the model.
  9. Repeat steps 2 through 8 as necessary to create additional anchor bolt patterns.
  10. Click OK when complete.
